For a journey

The way how, when you go up in a plane, unsettled
by the rush to take off, jostled by mere air and by
how deftly, finally earth has been swiped from you -

how when you've come to terms with this and with being
thrust like miners in a cage through crops of vapour
credible enough for you to want to dodge them

you emerge, into that brilliant blue realm, blinking
like shorn sheep at some apprehended loss but also
simultaneously at such dazzling weightlessness,

and at how heavenly life's old grey clouds look
there below, turned inside out, snow-soft, sun-bright
and level as a causeway you could walk for ever.
